In motor vehicle advertisements, I'm sure you have seen cut and polish, or even paint correction services. But what do they mean?
It may be sound very straight forward and simple. However it is not always the case.
Cut and polish or paint correction is a term used by many professional car detailers around the globe. It is the process of restoring the paintwork of the vehicle by removing a fine layer of the clear coat. Car cutting and car polishing uses a particular cutting and polishing compound.

The Proper Professional Cutting Method
It requires a professional cutting technique with correct tools. Also, a particular compound is needed. Don't forget that patience, passion, and attention to detail is a crucial ingredient too to achieve a great result.
This process will permanently remove light scratches, swirl marks, marring, holograms. Then, it will bring back the shine of your vehicle paintwork. Moreover, it requires a proper cutting technique with correct tools and compound.
Poor Car Cutting Method
Not using the correct tools and improper technique is considered a bad car cutting method. Furthermore, using Cheap and Abrasive compound can be considered as mediocre to poor cutting method.
This process will cut a significant layer of your car clear coat, causing buffer, trial, haze, hologram, and create a new micro swirl marks. The worst-case scenario would be burned paintwork. And it may cause thousands dollar to repair.
Most Common Issue After Poor Car Cutting
Poor cutting could thin your vehicle clear coat. It could also lessen the clear layer that protects your vehicle base paint.
Note: Your vehicle clear coat, work as a shield against UV, pollutant and chemical contamination (such as bird dropping, tree gum etc.)
Without its protection, The UV ray will start to bake your vehicle base colour, and this will create oxidation, haze, peeled clear coat and rust.
What is the difference between Cutting and Car Polishing
As we mentioned above, Cutting is the process of removing imperfection of your vehicle paintwork.
Car Polishing is a broad term. Generally, it is the next process after cutting. It is a process to maintain paintwork, remove minor paint defect, and to protect your vehicle paint job. It brings back the paintwork gloss or shine.
Polishing is best after decontamination or clay bar treatment and Cutting.
